NEW YORK — New York’s Derek Carr will receive $10 million this season in the first year of a five-year deal worth $125 million, according to league sources.
Carr will receive a base salary of $11.8 million and will earn $10.7 million in incentives.
The rest of the money will be spread among Carr’s teammates, including $1.9 million for a touchdown in the fourth quarter of a game and $4.8 on the first play of a drive.
Calls from the podiumCarr’s deal is the latest in a series of deals the 49ers have made with quarterbacks.
The Giants, meanwhile, have made several quarterback signings this off-season including a deal with Drew Brees for $40 million.
The 49ers’ move to pay Carr $12 million for the next three years is significant because the 49er salary cap is expected to be $62 million, meaning Carr will only be paid a fraction of that amount.
But that money could provide Carr with incentives worth $2 million or more, potentially making Carr one of the NFL’s highest-paid quarterbacks.
“I think it’s the best of both worlds for us,” 49ers general manager Trent Baalke said.
Carr, 27, is expected back with the 49ERS next season and the Giants are expected to have a chance to make a run at him. “
I think that’s what it’s all about.”
Carr, 27, is expected back with the 49ERS next season and the Giants are expected to have a chance to make a run at him.
He started only three games for San Francisco in his rookie season, and has been hampered by knee and ankle injuries.
But Carr has the skills and experience to become an elite quarterback in the league.
He’s also young and in his prime, which gives him the potential to have the most productive season of his career.
Carr’s average age is 31, and he could turn 32 before the end of the season.
The deal gives Carr an incentive package worth $8 million, which could help the 49.
He’s set to earn $1 million in base salary and $1,000 in incentives each of the next two seasons.
The Giants have been looking to add more players to their roster in free agency.
Baalke and general manager Jerry Reese have been working to find a quarterback to replace Manning, who retired in 2020 after leading the NFL in passing yards five times and completing 63.4 percent of his passes for 1,073 yards.
The New York quarterback, who turns 34 in April, led the league in interceptions in 2016 with five and finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy voting.
Cars first season with the Giants was derailed by injuries and missed the entire 2017 season due to a neck injury.
Carr was one of four quarterbacks to start at least 10 games for the 49ERs, and the quarterback’s presence and production were crucial to the team’s playoff run in 2016.
The contract also includes incentives for Carr and his teammates.
Carr is eligible for a $500,000 signing bonus and $50,000 for each touchdown pass.
The team will receive another $10,000 from the Giants for each interception and $10 for each pass defended.
The signing bonus is based on the average salary for the position for a starting quarterback in a given year.
For example, if a starting QB earns $6.2 million in 2016, he will get $4 million in 2017.
Cards average age at signing is 32.
He has had a solid career, but there have been some struggles during his first two seasons with the San Francisco 49ers.
He had career highs in passing and interceptions and was also named to the Pro Bowl in 2016 and 2017.
But he struggled through a mid-career slump in which he averaged 3.4 yards per pass attempt and threw 15 interceptions in a span of 12 seasons.
He missed two games last season with a shoulder injury.
